My First Cubicle

Yesterday, my dad broke the news to me that Jeff, my boss, needed me on July 5th, so I would have to work the day after July 4th and take off the Friday before instead.  I was kind of upset, I mean, if you had to pick a day to have off between a Monday and a Friday wouldn’t you pick a Monday?  Especially one that is right after a holiday.  Well, I got over it, and told myself I could go into work a little tired and it wasn’t like I was getting robbed of of a three-day weekend.  Plus, this way I got out of a dentist appointment.   

Anyway, I came into work today, and within an hour or so, Jeff called me asking me to meet with him and a few other people.  Unsuspectingly, I walked over to where we were meeting and he told me to bring paper and my calendar.  So, back to my desk I went, thinking the whole time, “what in the world can this be about?”

So I walked into the cubicle to find Jeff with a pretty big smile on his face.  His first thing he said to me was, “Well, I called your boss (my dad) yesterday and told him I need you on July 5th.”  I told him that was alright, still trying to figure out what he needed me for so bad on that specific day.

Then, he delves into his intense build up.  First, he begins with how he just got back from New York and how he met with the Amethyst reps while he was there, of course still making me wonder what all of this was about and what it had to do with me. 

Then, he mentions how Amethyst Jeans has a van that drives around the country to concerts giving away free pairs of jeans.  And only then does he mention Vans Warped Tour.  Suddenly, my heart started beating faster.  I began thinking, There is no way.  What he said next was that Amethyst has asked Glik’s to sit with them and give away jeans and goody bags from them, as well as our own coupons.  Basically, Amethyst wants us to co-sponsor Warped Tour with them, without any costs to us.  This is really when I start getting excited.

Jeff begins to talk about how we are going to have employees from Glik’s sitting there in shifts, two at a time, and whenever they are on break they can walk around and listen to the concerts.  For free.  By now, I’m practically holding myself back from asking the only thing I want to know, if I get to be one of the employees.  It is then that I think, Jeff you are going to be really mean if you tell me all of this and don’t let me go.

And right then, he points to me, and says, I want you to go, and be in charge!! AHHHH!!! I swear I probably smiled the biggest smile EVER and said “Yesss!!!”

I am so excited.  Yes, I am working, but, heck, I get to hear a ton of bands!  The van will be inside the gates, so I automatically get a free ticket and I should be able to at least hear the bands, even if I am working my shifts.  All I ask is that I get to see All American Rejects! 

Of course, I will have to put work into this, including scheduling shifts as well as keeping in contact with the Amethyst people and promoting the event.  But it will definitely be worth it!  I have barely been able to contain my excitement all day and I just cant wait to get out of here so I can sing and dance and, yes, brag. 🙂 I think some of my friends are going, so they can stop by and see me!

The best part about the whole thing?  I have been wanting to go to the Warped Tour anyway, and every year I have either not had enough money or had something going on, mainly with work.  This year, I wasn’t going to be able to go because I had a dentist appointment.  But I will gladly trade a dentist appointment for working at a concert any day!  Plus, I might get some free jeans out of it.

So, for those of you who didn’t catch my drift, Glik’s is going to be at the Vans Warped Tour in St. Louis on Monday, July 5th with Amethyst Jeans.  We are giving out free jeans and coupons, so make sure you stop by and see me!  We will be in the bright pink “Jean Machine.”  We should have a line a mile long, so you won’t be able to miss it!  Hope to see you there!
